Description
Come and stroll through one of Atlanta's most famous and historic neighborhoods, Sweet Auburn. Discover the birthplace and workplace of Martin Luther King Jr., key sites in Black history and the American civil rights movement, and unusual places that even locals don't know about.
We'll start the tour on Auburn Avenue, the neighborhood's main avenue where you can see the King family home, the Ebenezer Baptist Church (the parish), the tomb of MLK and his wife Coretta Scott King, the eternal flame, and exhibitions about their lives. On this avenue, you'll also have the chance to see the houses called 'shotgun,' the popular houses in the southern United States.
Then, the walk continues through the historic churches, businesses, and meeting places that were at the heart of the African-American community and the American civil rights movement.
The walk wouldn't be complete without a visit to the oldest food market in the neighborhood and Atlanta. There, you'll discover the traditional ethnic cuisine of African Americans (from the Southern United States).
