Description

Zoo Atlanta is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), recognized for high standards in animal care and welfare. The zoo aims to save wildlife and their habitats through conservation, research, education, and engaging experiences.

The zoo features hundreds of animals from over 200 species worldwide, including many endangered or critically endangered animals. Recent upgrades include a revamped African lion complex opened in April 2025 and the state-of-the-art Rollins Health Center, available for behind-the-scenes tours.

Visitors can walk through the African Savanna habitat, home to species like African elephants, giraffes, zebras, ostriches, warthogs, and meerkats. The lion complex is next to a redesigned habitat for southern white rhinos.

Zoo Atlanta hosts two of the largest great ape populations in North America, including gorillas and orangutans. The indoor Scaly Slimy Spectacular exhibit features more than 50 species of amphibians and reptiles in a climate-controlled environment.

Service Animal Policy

Zoo Atlanta’s Service Animal Admittance Policy complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Only service dogs or miniature horses trained to perform specific tasks for individuals with disabilities are permitted. Emotional support animals and other pets are not allowed. Some zoo areas restrict access to service animals for animal safety.

Paid public parking is available at the Cherokee Avenue lot and Grant Park Gateway Facility on Boulevard, both managed by AAA Parking and owned by the City of Atlanta.

• Animals are typically sheltered an hour before closing
• Food stands close one hour before closing
• Special events are not included with the standard ticket
• Pets are prohibited except for service animals; some zoo areas restrict service animal access
